Among our partners we quite frequently debate over the role that the oil industry is going to play in the future when it comes to geothermal energy. Well, earlier this year Baker Hughges from Houston, the world’s third-largest oilfield services company, participated at GeoTHERM in Offenburg. My guess is that we are going to see more of the “oil guys” around boreholes in the near future…

On their website Baker Hughes mentions its willingness to forge strategic alliances and to assume more responsibility and sharing more of the risks of geothermal development. Check this out:

“The geothermal energy industry is changing the way it does business. In an increasingly competitive marketplace, geothermal companies are demanding new efficiencies from their operations. As a result, the geothermal service industry is assuming more responsibility for up front project planning while sharing more of the risks of geothermal development.

Baker Hughes is a leader in providing high temperature products and services for geothermal development around the world. By offering a complete range of capabilities and, when necessary, forging strategic alliances with others in the service industry, Baker Hughes can provide total wellbore planning, construction and management responsive to the specific needs of a client’s project.”
